Lesson 7 - "What Experts Have Seen You Be Amazing?" 

"Life Scene Investigation and this class uses DNA both as a scientific reality but also as a way to describe who you are.  DNA is a code with defined elements called alleles. Those alleles are the differences which define your uniqueness.  There are certain characteristics you possess that define your potential.  We are born with certain things that cannot be changed.  We are also our own history – Nurture.  All those forces, experiences and people who influence our lives.  We call this Nature and Nurture.

Expert Witness – a person who because of experience, education or mastery, can give testimony to the truth of Exceptional Talent.

Think though your life and identify people who made a big difference in your life.  They believed in you.  They told you you could be someone.  They guided you in a direction of a college, a major, job or maybe were responsible for you getting a promotion.  

​

The reason what they said mattered is because they were someone with weight.  Not heavy or fat but experience, influence and they were respected.  

​

What have you done that has been witnessed by an Expert that would be judged as Exceptional?

Expert Witnesses are likely to see us:

  • In class – a teacher or professor

  • At work – a manager, boss or executive

  • In a performance venue – sports field, stage, event

 

The weight and credibility of Expert Witnesses must be assessed by asking about:

  • Their credentials in the specific field they are giving evidence of Talent

  • Their academic credentials – degrees, schools, etc

  • Their performance credentials – length of time with experience in the specific area of Talent

  • Their awards and standing in the specific area of Talent assessment

 

Their relationship to the person they give evidence for or on behalf of is not  personal but primarily  professional.

How has a statement from an Expert impacted or even changed the direction of your career or college choice?

​

When you build your My Life Scene Talent DNA Profile, Expert Witness Statements will matter.  The profile will be used to help you get a job.  Recruiters will look at what the Experts say as will graduate school programs.  Experts matter!

 

Now it is time to see how Expert Witnesses can impact your life and make your Talent so much bigger and better.

I would like you to share your Gallup StrengthsQuest/Finder Report with at least three people: teachers, professors, tutors, counselors, managers.

​

  • Email them and attach a copy of your report.

  • Ask them to read it.  Most people who are asked to read these reports love doing so.  They are fascinated and love helping others.

  • Ask them to make a brief statement about how they have seen one or two of your Top 5 Strengths in your life.

  • Thank them when they respond.  You will be surprised at how much people who care for us are willing and happy to do this.
    You can include their Witness Statements when you start on the SPIES domains of your discovery.

 

Do you remember how much it meant to you when someone you respected or admired told you they believed in you or you could be someone amazing?

Wherever you see this Expert Witness icon, ask yourself, “What expert had said I am exceptional?  Who are they?  What did they say?”

 

Would you take the time to ask them for an Expert Witness Statement that allows them to tell others about who you are and what their expertise has seen in your life?  Ask them!

  8. There are people who consider you an Expert.  It might only be because you are older or maybe further along in school or hold a higher position in an organization

  9. Why is it important that when you see others close to you do amazing things that are evidence of Talent or Character that you as an Expert speak up?

  10. How can you change and make others happy by telling them what you see?  

  11. How can we change the course of someone's life by saying what we see.
